Rooted in history, the impressive architecture of Downtown Missoula still shines. The County Courthouse, St. Francis Church and the Wilma Theater are amongst the many historic landmarks in the area. The original part of Missoula, this area still bustles with energy. Shops, restaurants and cafes line the streets of historic buildings, and walkers, runners and recreational cyclists come here to watch the river flow by and meet friends at classic Missoula venues such as the Farmers’ Markets and the Downtown Association’s Out To Lunch on Wednesdays in the summertime.
The area includes Caras Park, where countless events are held throughout the year, often bringing in food vendors and entertainment, and many sit to watch the kayakers and surfers at Brennan’s Wave. Other attractions are the Kim Williams River Trail, St. Patrick Hospital, MOBASH Skatepark, Missoula Art Museum and countless downtown events. Missoulians and visitors alike flock downtown on Saturday mornings (and some Thursday evenings) during Spring, Summer and Fall months for the famous Missoula Farmers Market and Clark Fork River Market located at each end of North Higgins Avenue.
